Australia's Immigration Minister arrives in Sri Lanka on an official visit

Australia's Minister of Immigration and Boarder Protection Scott Morrison has arrived in Sri Lanka Tuesday night for a two-day official visit.

The Australian Minister is in Colombo to attend a ceremony to officially commission the two Bay Class patrol vessels, formerly used by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service and gifted to the Sri Lankan Navy to combat people smuggling.

A four member delegation has accompanied the Minister, Sri Lanka's External Affairs Ministry has said.

Minister Morrison's visit comes amid the controversy of Australia returning 41 Sri Lankan asylum seekers, who attempted to reach Australia illegally by boat, to Sri Lankan authorities at high seas.

The Australian delegation led by Minister Morrison will hold discussions with top level Sri Lankan government officials on human trafficking and illegal migrations to Australia.
